Navigation Menus in Photoshop

The aim of this article is to show you how simple it can be to create a visually pleasing, functional navigation menu using nothing but Photoshop and its sister product ImageReady

Photoshop is undoubtedly one of the titans of image editing software available today. It is one of the industry standards in its field and is almost unmatched in terms of power and features, and in some cases, it will even do your work for you. This is especially true in the case of web-design. Take the 'web photo gallery' feature for example; you set a source directory and a target directory, and the program will create a HTML based picture album for you.

Another of the programs vastly under-rated features is its strength in creating graphic-driven navigation systems. The aim of this article is to show you how simple it can be to create a visually pleasing, functional navigation menu using nothing but Photoshop and its sister product ImageReady.

Start off with a blank canvas approximately 650 by 300 pixels and a white or transparent background. The measurements used in this example are not particularly important other than to illustrate the concept.
